The implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in companies will grow exponentially in 2020; but until now, its application has been largely discreet due to ignorance of it. However, we know that companies are making significant efforts to promote Digital Transformation and that in the next decade part of the processes and projects that transform the digital roadmap are and are supported by the AI.
This is what you need to know about AI and its importance in 2020:
What is AI?
(AI) is intelligence carried out by technology that is capable of “imitating” the cognitive functions that humans associate with human minds such as: perceiving, reasoning, learning, and solving problems. Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein define artificial intelligence as “the ability of a system to correctly interpret external data, to learn from such data, and to use that knowledge to accomplish specific tasks and goals through flexible adaptation.”
Types of AI
Just as humans have different types of intelligence, artificial intelligence are not the same either and they differ from each other due to their level of complexity, there are four types of AI:
Level 1: Artificial Intelligence in its most basic form
This type of artificial intelligence starts from a database that includes all the information you may need to carry out your task, as well as the knowledge to use and combine all that information to achieve the most satisfactory result possible. Artificial intelligence systems like Deep Blue, “the supercomputer developed by IBM to defeat Garri Kaspárov in the late 1990s are a good example of this type of basic AI.
Level 2: Artificial intelligence with limited memory
It is the one that is currently being developed, and it refers to the algorithms that contain the capacity to record or “remember” past experiences to predict or apply them in their decisions. They are used in applications as varied as on mobile devices or voice assistants/chatbots. These systems use machine learning to add new information to their database based on knowledge base to improve their operation.
Level 3: Artificial intelligence based on the theory of mind
The ability to process and expose emotions is one of the great pillars on which human societies are based and is the first step in integrating artificial intelligence as part of that society and not as a mere device or algorithm. This basic approach already suggests a much more humane operation in the development of artificial intelligence processes since “the artificial intelligence agent” must be able to understand the emotions of its interlocutor and be able to show its own.
Level 4: Artificial intelligence with self-awareness
Self-aware artificial intelligence systems are in a merely theoretical state. In reality, this would be the highest level of artificial intelligence since it would be the closest to living beings. In this stage of artificial intelligence, the machine would understand their feelings and be able to put them in context taking a perspective of themselves.
What applications does AI have in a company?
AI in 2020, in addition to the already deployed robotics and process automation, will be developed in the advancement of “machine learning” or automated learning, that is, in the analysis of big data in all areas of the organization. Machine learning technologies are already present in all the current software that most companies use, as well as in the following areas of action:
AI is key in the predictive analytics of marketing, CRM, sales or R&D campaigns and is already a reality, especially when a large number of data is available that allows us to predict patterns mainly in customer analysis and potentials.
The digitization of an organization’s processes allows companies to optimize their performance, make strategic decisions and improve their communication as well as the experience of customers and employees.
What do we expect from AI in 2020?
Developing home physical assistants to perform routine tasks
The incorporation of digital assistants in the workplace to perform routine tasks
That 50% of searches are carried out with voice
Let smart chatbots provide customer service
The next decade promises exciting things for AI development, across industries and in every aspect of our lives.
